Elections on June 8: Military Personnel Deployed in Gilgit-Baltistan
The Election Commission has concluded all arrangements to organise general elections of Legislative Assembly in a free, fair and transparent manner.
Following the sensitive security situation, as many as 5500 army soldiers will be deployed in 24 constituencies of seven districts whereas 4200 police officials including Rangers’ and scouts will assist them. On the other hand, district administration has already imposed 144 in Skardu city. According to the notification, issued by the administration, all political or election-related campaign will not be allowed by 12am midnight (Saunday). Stern security arrangements have been devised in Gilgit-Baltistan for the upcoming general elections of Legislative Assembly scheduled to be held on June 8.
The authorities constituted security control rooms to control more than 112 CCTV cameras, installed in some important areas. Governor Gilgit-Baltistan Barjees Tahir has said that everyone has the right to vote for his desired party. On the other hand, Inspector General (IG) Gilgit-Baltistan said that 4000 security officials will be deployed for holding transparent elections. It is pertinent to mention here that the total number of voters is 6,18,364 in which 2,88,879 are females and 3,29,475 are male voters. Hundreds of polling stations have been established for the voters. Furthermore, in district Diamir, female voters will use their vote right for the very first time.
