Pakistan Air Force ex-deputy chief says no army for Saudi-led war
Former Deputy Chief of Pakistan Air Force (PAF) air marshal Shahid Latif, a Sunni Bralevi Muslim, has opposed Pakistan’s participation in Saudi-led war coalition against Yemen. He was not promoted to the top position of air chief because Saudi-allied U.S.’s Islamabad ambassador opposed him.
In a talk show broadcast by Rose news channel, air marshal (rtd) Shahid Latif who is a known defence analyst said that Pakistan should not join Saudi war against Yemen because we did not find anything in last few foreign wars Pakistan supports or participated in.
“Pakistani regime should take lesson from Afghan-USSR war and last Afghan war because joining U.S.-led allies there brought huge losses for Pakistan,” he said.
He cited that Pakistani politicians also disagree to be part of this war and it is not good for Pakistan as we are already fighting against terrorists here.
He agreed that there are holy shrines in Arabian Peninsula but their geographical and territorial integrity has not come under threat or attack. All Muslims around the world know how to safeguard Mecca and Medina but war against Yemen had nothing to do with that issue.
Hence, he urged, Pakistan army should not join Saudi-led war coalition and should not commit anything for war against Yemen.
