Shiite News: Sheikh Mirza Ali, the nominated provincial president of the Islamic Movement of Gilgit-Baltistan, has said that the determination of the constitutional status of the GB is not a political issue but a matter of national interest. All the political parties have made the painful vein of the GB people a stepping stone to power. In the last 36 years, no party has shown seriousness in giving Gilgit-Baltistan the status of annexation of Pakistan. No political party has taken the GB’s constitutional status seriously, which is a serious joke and unforgivable to the people of the region and a clear denial of Pakistan’s accession by Gilgit-Baltistan’s national heroes. It is an undeniable fact that in the 36 years since the beginning of political activity in the region, almost all the ruling parties have bargained for the constitutional status of the GB very cheaply. The region’s 74-year-old sense of deprivation has become a stepping stone to his five-year rule.

Talking to various delegations in Gilgit, Sheikh Mirza Ali said that the present ruling party made loud and clear claims of determining the constitutional status of the region, introduced the term interim constitutional province, hinted at the passage of the Act of Parliament, but So far no significant progress has been made. Other political parties did not take any serious steps during their tenure but kept the people of Gilgit-Baltistan concerned. The entire period was spent in manipulating power, but when the current Speaker of the National Assembly convened several meetings of the parliamentary parties, no political party played a positive role in determining the constitutional status of Gilgit-Baltistan. The front-line leaders of the parties were tearing apart the GB’s declaration of guarantee of rights during the provincial elections and at the same time turning their backs on the meetings of the Constitutional Committee.

He said that the Islamic Movement of Pakistan is the leading party in determining the constitutional status of the GB and is the custodian of the constitutional rights movement in the region. For the last 74 years, the people seeking the constitutional destination of Pakistan’s accession have been growing increasingly frustrated by the lack of seriousness of all political parties, including the ruling party, which is not a good omen. We want the role of political parties in determining the constitutional status of the region to be positive and to play a conciliatory role in determining the constitutional status of Gilgit-Baltistan by forgetting all differences. The federal and provincial ruling party has to play its key role in the best interest of the country and the nation and show seriousness in fulfilling its promises. Increasing the size of financial and development grants can in no way be seen as an alternative to the constitutional status of the region.
