Pakistan Iran border trade gate opens in Taftan for local traders, according to Pakistani media report.

The mutual trade gate between Iran and Pakistan is commonly known as Zero Point Gate at Taftan border crossing has reopened.

The trade gate, which had remained closed in September 2020. Due to which the activities of local traders on both sides of the border remained affected.

Tax-free trade in the area based on an old trade agreement between Iran and Pakistan signed in 1951.

Meanwhile, local traders welcomed the reopening of the trade gate. Specially, border residents who benefit the most from this trade also welcome its reopening.

Notably, the people of Balochistan need import of basic goods from Iran; hence, reopening of the gate remained on agenda of the Iranian-Pakistani border authorities.

Finally, they reopened this crossing for commercial activities.

A Levies Force official said: “The trade gate has been reopened for three days a week and initially Iranian commodities will be imported during this period.”

Meanwhile, Director-General of the Asia-Pacific Office at Iran’s Trade Promotion Organization (TPO) commented on the reopening.

He had earlier spoken of increased official crossings between Iran and Pakistan from one to three until February 2021.

He said that according to the directives of Prime Minister of Pakistan, with the formal opening of Mand border in February, the number of official crossings between the two countries will reach three.

Reza Seyed-Aqazadeh further said that it would have a significant impact on increasing trade relations between the two countries.

Earlier, Pakistan’s Minister of Maritime Affairs and Ambassador of Iran reviewed the latest state of economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.

Both sides stressed the need to enhance bilateral cooperation in maritime sector.

During the meeting on Thursday, Syed Ali Haider Zaidi and Ambassador Seyed Mohammad Ali Hosseini also discussed border crossing and border markets.
