Protest movement for Shia victims of enforced disappearance to begin on December 25, 2020.

Families of Shia victims of enforced disappearance and Joint Action Committee for Shia Missing Persons will jointly launch new phase of their protest movement.

They made this announcement, while addressing a joint press conference in Karachi today (Friday).

Together, they will gather outside mausoleum of founder of Pakistan Mohammad Ali Jinnah, himself a Shia Muslim to register protest.

Families and the committee’s supporters will protest against enforced disappearance of Shia youth and notables on December 25, the birth anniversary of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah.

Meanwhile, MWM Pakistan deputy secretary general Allama Syed Ahmed Iqbal Rizvi and Imamia Students Organisation (ISO) President Arif Hussain Aljani elaborated their viewpoint.

They made it clear that Shia Muslims believe in rule of law but undeclared detention or enforced disappearance is a proof of lawlessness.

Furthermore, they recalled that they always urged the authorities concerned to produce such detainees in the court of law if they have any charge against them.

In this regard, they also referred the Constitution of Pakistan that guarantees certain rights to such citizens of Pakistan.

Particularly, they also cited article 10 of the Constitution of Pakistan which relates safeguards as to arrest and detention. It states: (1) No person who is arrested shall be detained in custody without being informed, as soon as may be, of the grounds for such arrest, nor shall he be denied the right to consult and be defended by a legal practitioner of his choice.

Moreover, Shia Islamic parties’ leaders further said that the families of the victims of enforced disappearance suffer immensely.

They further said some elderly family members have passed away longing for return of their kith and kin to the family.

Besides, they also shared numerous problems and difficulties which the affected families have to suffer.

They said the families include those elderly parents, minor children and spouses. And they depend upon the income which such victims were earning for them.

Moreover, they said that the protest movement would expand to all over Pakistan. Finally, they would start sit-in outside Parliament.

They demanded immediate release of innocent victims of enforced disappearance.

Furthermore, they demanded their production in the court of law if have any charges but also ensure families and their lawyers have access to them.
