Sit-in ends after Govt assure to meet all demands in 15 days

MUZAKRAT KAMIABMajlis e Wahdat e Muslimeen announced end of sit-in protest after government’s higher authorities assured them that all their demands would be met within 15 days.
Chairman Senate Syed Nayyar Bukhari, PPP’s newly appointed federal ministers Qamar Zaman Kaira and Nazar Gondal, Chief Commissioner, IG, Deputy Commissioner and others held talks with the MWM leaders. They were of the views that to protest against Chilas Tragedy and target killings is legitimate right of Shia Muslims. They said that all demands of the MWM were practicable.
MWM’s meeting with them and federal interior minister Rehman Malik lasted for four hours. They all further expressed their viewpoint that state organs and federal interior minister were responsible to meet the demands.
As a result of talks, a judicial commission was formed to probe into Chilas Tragedy. The commission will comprise of a judge from Supreme Court, another from High Court, a Shia and a Sunni scholar, and a lawyer. The Commission will give its report in a month about the actual numbers of the missing persons, murdered people and causes of Chilas Tragedy. The formation of the commission was notified.
About curriculum, government representatives assured that a common curriculum acceptable to all sects will be made.

They assured that the curfew in Gilgit will not be imposed in the daytime and after normalcy night curfew will also be withdrawn.

They assured that the people arrested on suspicion of breach into peace would be released. It is also noteworthy that Chief Minister, Chief Secretary Gilgit Baltistan, Rangers and Scouts officials were informed at midnight about all these decisions.

Chief Minister sought time till Monday for the arrests of all terrorists and that jirga would hand over the wanted terrorists. Otherwise an operation would be launched against the terrorists.

The heirs/relatives of the martyrs would be paid Rs.2 million each as compensatory amount. Rangers will be deployed to make the route safe. Rangers’ mobile teams will patrol from Kohistan’s area Dabir to Chilas. Gilgit Scouts will patrol from Chilas to Gilgit,

Kaghan Road will be constructed for safe travel from Rawalpindi to Gilgit. Funds have been allocated for this purpose. Extra flights will be available for air travelling and C-130 planes will also be available in addition to the PIA.

Allama Amin Shaheedi, Allama Asghar Askari and Allama Iqbal Behishti represented the MWM in these fruitful talks. Allama Raja Nasir Abbas informed the protestors at the sit-in about these developments and announced that protests would be resumed if government would not honour the agreement.
