Clad in black clothes, they participate in mourning congregations and processions to pay homage to Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions (PBUT).

Scholars highlight the sacrifices and struggle of Imam Hussain (AS) and his supporters.

Meanwhile, Chairman Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee Mufti Muneeb-ur-Rehman on Thursday announced sighting of the Moharram-ul-Haram moon.

Pakistan will observe Youm-e-Ashur on August 30.

The first day of the holy month of Muharram would fall on August 21, Mufti Muneeb said after he chaired a meeting in Karachi.

Umayyad despotic tyrant Yazid bin Muavia had ordered Governors to force Imam Hussain for allegiance to Yazid but Imam Hussain (AS) refused to do so.

He led a struggle and staunchly opposed Yazid-led regime’s despotism and tyranny.

Finally, the Umayyad regime’s army put a siege of Imam Hussain-led caravan in Karbala (Iraq) in the 61st year of Hijrah (migration).

According to Sunni historians, Muavia had installed his son Yazid and forced notables to accept his son as caliph (ruler).

Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan founder Syed Abul Aala Moudoodi wrote in his book Khilafat wa Malookiyat that even Muavia came to power not through fair means.

Mr. Moudoodi called him founder of Umayyad dynastic monarchy bringing an end to Khilafat.
