Chilas terrorists shot dead five counterterrorism police cops during an encounter in Diamer’s Chilas district on Tuesday.

Five policemen, including an inspector, belonging to the Gilgit Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) embraced martyrdom.

They had conducted a midnight raid in the aforesaid area but terrorists shot five of them dead.

According to officials, wanted criminals’ firing also left five CTD officials wounded.

Meanwhile, two others also lost lives during the operation.

Police said they had received information that wanted criminals were hiding at the location.

When they reached the scene, the suspects opened fire. Resultantly, five CTD members embraced martyrdom.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Diamer said that concerned officials were investigating to determine as to who perpetrated this crime.

Caretaker GB chief minister Mir Afzal Khan has directed the inspector general of Gilgit Baltistan to submit a report of the incident.

He confirmed that the suspects were also doing weapons trades, apart from terrorist activities.

However, people of the area blocked the Karakoram Highway in protest against the killing of two civilians in the exchange of fire.
