Shia Muslims observe the 6th July to commemorate historic 6th July 1980 protest movement and accord between government and Shia Islamic leaders.

Notably, that movement came to known as Tehreek Nifaz Fiqh-e-Jafaria (TNFJ).

The most revered pious Shia Islamic scholar Mufti Jafar Hussain led TNFJ and waged a peaceful rights struggle against Gen Zia-led Martial Law regime.

Shia Muslims demanded their Islamic rights as per their own jurisprudence-based rules but the martial law regime had other plans.

Finally, the regime agreed to the legitimate and logical demands of Mufti Jafar-led Shia Muslim protesters.

On the other hand, Shia Ulma Council founder leader issued a message to mark the 6th July 1980 when Shia Muslims waged a peaceful struggle for legitimate fundamental rights.

He named the 6th July as the Day of Enforcement of Jafari Jurisprudence for Shia Muslims (Youm-e-Nifaz-e-Fiqh-e-Jafaria).

He recalled that people largely attended convention in Islamabad on 6 July 1980.

Allama Sajid Naqvi cited that people had made Islamic, legitimate, legal, democratic, rational and logical demand that the government must respect and recognize creed and tenet of all schools of thought in the process of Islamisation.

He said peaceful protesters demanded the government must ensure religious freedoms and civil liberties while respecting religious belief of all people (Muslims).

Allama Sajid Naqvi made clear that nobody should wrongly portray the 6 July 1980 a day of fray of one sect against another sect. He rebuffed that impression and allegation.
