Government inaction resulted in bloody clash in Kurrum over land dispute between Parha Chakmani and Balishkhel tribes.

Both tribes clashed over a land dispute in Lower Kurrum in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. The land situated in erstwhile FATA (Federally Administered Tribal Area).

Dawn reported that clashes between two tribes over a dispute on the ownership of land left five people dead and 24 injured.

The exchange of heavy fire continued on the second day, police and hospital sources said.

On Monday, Dr Mumtaz Hussain, deputy medical superintendent of district headquarters hospital in Parachinar confirmed death of five people in the clashes.
He said that 24 people received bullet injuries.

An official said that three of the killed people belonged to Balishkhel and two hailed from Para Chamkani.

Officials and local elders had negotiated ceasefire on Sunday evening between the warring tribes. But they disregarded it and resumed fighting.

The authorities concerned had suspended Internet service while continuous firing has also affected flow of traffic on main Thall-Parachinar Highway, which passes through Balishkhel area.

Earlier, MWM KP leader had already expressed his fear of clash over the dispute

Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen Khyber Pakhtunkhwa chapter’s Allama Waheed Kazmi warned of grave situation due to these two land issues.

While citing Balishkhel Parachinar land issue, he lamented land grabbers continue to occupy the land illegally but government takes no action.

He alerted if the illegal occupation of land continues, it might engender bloody clashes and confrontation. Hence, he called for resolving the issue for the sake of peace in that region.
