Under that conditional permission, Sunnis have begun offering en masse taraveeh prayers and other congregational prayers since the moonsighting night of Ramazan.
Surprisingly, some elements misled people as though they lacked religious gatherings’ freedom.
And their propaganda brought police action against Shia Muslims on Youm-e-Ali mourning (azadari).
Karachi police filed more than 30 cases and arrested hundreds of Shia mourners.
Preedy Police Station (Saddar) also booked the permit holder Dr Hassan Arif, MWM leader Ali Hussain Naqvi, SUC leader Allama Nazir Taqvi, Jafaria Alliance’s Shabbar Raza and Allama Baqir H Zaidi, Tanzeem-e-Aza’s Shahzad Rizvi, Tanzeem-e-Azadari’s SM Naqi and Meesam Abbas Jafari, etc.
Earlier, City Courts (Karachi) acquitted 250 Shia mourners and nullified the cases against them.
Karachi police had detained more than 250 Shia mourners on return from Youm-e-Ali symbolic mourning procession.
The police also booked them under fake cases of violation of section 144 or violation of social distancing.
The legal team of Majlis-e-Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM) led efforts for their release.
Due to waging legal battle, the City Court ordered police to release all those more than 250 azadars (Shia mourners).
The court exonerated them of the charges and also rejected challans nullifying the cases.
