Ibtisam Elahi Zaheer booked for violating Covid19 precautionary measures during Taraweeh prayers.

Lahore police registered a against the Jamiat-e-Ahle Hadith Chief Allama Ibtisam Elahi Zaheer for violating the rules set for offering Taraweeh prayers at mosques.

Ulema had earlier agreed with government over rules for offering congregational prayers at mosques while observing precautionary measures.

The case has been registered against Zaheer at the Civil Lines Police Station for violating the

Ibtisam Ilahi Zaheer committed violations during the Taraweeh prayers at a mosque on Lawrence road.

Police said Ibtisam had not implemented set distance of 6 ft among the participants of the Taraweeh congregation.

According to the First Investigation Report (FIR), about 300 participants of the congregation offered Taraweeh while standing shoulder to shoulder.

Earlier on Saturday, the Pakistan Islamic Medical Association (PIMA) had warned that mosques are turning into a big source of coronavirus transmission.

They urged Muslim faithful to offer prayers at home.

The warning has come at the time when the virus infections have reached over 12,000 in the country.

PIMA President Dr Iftikhar Burney addressed a press conference. He said that the infections had surged over the past week.

He said that the cases had doubled from last week’s 6,000 to 12,000 in just six days.

However, Islamic scholars of other sects are acting upon the advice of health authorities in this regard.
