The Sunni azadar police official embraced martyrdom for his anti-takfiri ideology: that he was a mourner (azadar) of Imam Hussain (AS). The Assistant Sub Inspector of Yaktoon Police Station was ambushed by takfiri nasbi terrorists of banned Taliban/Sipah-e-Sahaba (ASWJ) near Wazir Bagh area of Peshawar on Thursday morning.

Police sources said that terrorists opened fire at assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Asif Mehmood’s vehicle near Wazir Bagh area in the limits of Yakatoot police station as he was traveling with his son to drop him to school. Police said that the assailants sped away on their motorcycle after the attack.

His body was shifted to Lady Reading Hospital Peshawar. His namaz-e-janaza will be held today at Khan Mast Colony outside Yaktoot. Martyr was a matami. Matami means who mourn the assassination of Imam Hussain (AS) and other martyrs of Karbala by beating their chest and chanting: Ya Hussain (AS).

Banned takfiri Taliban (TTP) claims Peshawar attack targeting senior army officer

The attack on the ASI comes days after a suicide attack targeted high-ranking military official Brigadier Khalid Bajwa in Peshawar. Javed narrowly escaped the explosion and the attack was claimed by the outlawed takfiri terrorist outfit Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP).

Peshawar is the capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province and has seen scores of attacks on law enforcement personnel in the past. The city is also the home to the XI Corps, an administrative corp of the Pakistan Army which manages all military activity in KP and is currently engaged in the army offensive in North Waziristan.
