Engineer Syed Mumtaz Rizvi hails from Karachi while the three others belong to Bhakkar.

Their families and Shia Missing Persons Release Committee had run a long campaign for their release.

Protest rallies and demos held across the country to demand end to enforced disappearance or release of all Shia missing persons.

However, many Shia notables continue to suffer under undeclared detention or enforced disappearance so far.

The spouse of Engineer Mumtaz Rizvi has demanded the government and state officials to ensure immediate release of his husband who had gone missing since January 23, 2018.

She made this demand, while addressing a press conference at Karachi Press Club yesterday.

Shia Missing Persons Release Committee head Rashid Rizvi and rights activist Jibran Nasir were also present.

Mrs. Mumtaz Rizvi lamented that even the judiciary failed to do justice and they were getting new date of hearing on every hearing of the case of missing social leader.

She said Mumtaz Rizvi was very much active in philanthropic activities in Karachi and out of Karachi. He was a doctoral student at Karachi University.

She said his husband had served humanity and in particular the heirs of the victims of terrorism/orphans. She said Mumtaz Rizvi also served in the field of education in addition to social welfare activities.

The wife said when Pakistani agencies got a son of a former prime minister released from captivity in another country, then why a Pakistani notable has not yet been recovered?

She recalled that his spouse had not returned since January 23, 2018, when he left the house for business activity and now more than a year had passed but the family has not yet been informed about his whereabouts or details of charge.

The family had lodged a complaint with the Sachal Police Station in which she said his husband was affiliated with business relating to computers and their parts.

Shia notable Mumtaz Rizvi is believed to have been subjected to enforced disappearance because “missing persons” term in Pakistan has been coined for victims of enforced disappearance.
