Pakistan bans Ansarul Islam militant wing of Deobandi party JUIF as interior ministry formally issued a notification.

The ministry referred the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl’s wing as private militia/Razakar Force of the JUI-F,.

Incidentally, PTI government made this decision days before Fazlur Rehman-led party’s anti-government ‘Azadi March’.

Pakistan bans Ansarul Islam

According to the notification, the federal government had “reasons to believe that Ansar-ul-Islam remains capable of functioning as a military organisation. That it sees in violation of the prohibition contained in Article 256 of the Constitution”.

Moreover, federal government approved all four provincial governments consented under Article 146(1) of the Constitution.

Centre empowers provincial governments to take action

Most importantly, that allows the federal government to delegate any of its powers to the provinces, conditionally or unconditionally, with the consent of the provincial governments.

It empowered the provincial governments to take appropriate actions under Section 2 of the Private Military Organisations (Abolition and Prohibition) Act, 1974, against Ansar-ul-Islam.

Furthermore, the authority will include, among others, “the power to abolish/ban the said organisation. It will also include to take further steps against them on ground” in order to complete the action.

Earlier, federal cabinet had approved the summary seeking ban on Ansar-ul-Islam.
