Gilgit Baltistan bracing to observe Ashura according to solar calendar
Shia Muslims of Gilgit-Baltistan began preparing for Ashura-e-Asad to commemorate the anniversary of martyrdoms of Karbala according to solar calendar.
Shiites observe the anniversary of martyrdoms of Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions in Karbala during Moharram, first month of Islamic calendar. Ashura is observed on 10th of Moharram, according to Islamic/Lunar calendar.
Similarly, Shia Muslims of Kashmir began observing Ashura during the month of August under the banner of Ashra-e-Asad. Shiites of Gilgit-Baltistan too followed Kashmiri Shiites and began observing the Ashra-e-Asad. These areas are one of the coldest areas hence they wanted that they should mourn the assassinations of Imam Hussain (AS) and his companions during summer season also because lunar calendar consists of 355 or 356 days hence its months make 10 days difference with the months of solar calendar every year.
According to the solar calendar, Ashura-e-Asad will be observed on August 12. Gilgit-Baltistan police has made security arrangements for the Ashra-e-Asad.
