Bashar Assad enters Syria’s presidential race

Bashar Assad, the President of Syria, has announced his candidacy to run for country’s presidential election due to be held on June 3.

According to the official news agency of Syria, Bashar Hafez al-Assad has submitted an application to the Supreme Constitutional Court announcing his candidacy for President of the Republic.

Speaker of the People’s Assembly Mohammad Jihad al-Laham during a session held Monday, said that the Assembly received a notification from the Supreme Constitutional Court stating that Bashar Hafez al-Assad has submitted candidacy application to the Court.
