1000s of Syrians hold pro-Assad ralliesThousands take to the streets of Syria’s capital to express support for the President Bashar al-Assad and his political reform program in the face of foreign attempts at destabilizing the country.

The demonstrations took place in Sayyedeh Zainab area and al-Hijaz Square in Damascus on Sunday, the state Syrian News Agency (SANA) reported on Sunday.

Waving Syrian flags and pictures of Assad, the attendants condemned foreign interference in the country’s internal affairs and urged national unity.

Syria has been experiencing unrest since mid-March, with demonstrations being held both against and in favor of the head of state.

Damascus blames ‘outlaws, saboteurs, and armed terrorist groups’ for the tension, saying it is being orchestrated from abroad.

In interviews with Israeli news outlets over the past few months, the Syrian opposition members have “clearly expressed their vision for the future of Syria and their interest in establishing relations with the Tel Aviv regime,” according to informed sources in Syria.

Syrian state TV has broadcast reports showing seized weapons caches and confessions by terrorist elements, who described how they had obtained arms from foreign sources as means of fostering chaos in the country.
