Israel hits Syrian government position in Golan Heights

Israel says that it has struck a Syrian military position after a tank shell landed in an open area in the occupied Golan Heights.

The Israeli military announced that the Wednesday night tank shelling hit an uninhabited area in the northern Golan without causing any casualties.

It added that the tank shell was probably a stray round fired during the fighting in the war-torn Arab country, and that in response, it had identified and hit a Syrian “government position” in the northeastern Golan Heights.

Tel Aviv has targeted the region several times over the past few years.
