At least 8,500 Syrian women have joined their country’s Armed Forces to take part in the war against terrorism shoulder-to-shoulder with male soldiers in the Middle-Eastern country, army sources said.

“These female volunteers, after finishing their military trainings, have joined into four main groups,” the sources said.

“A large number of the Syrian female fighters have been deployed to the first lines of battle against the terrorist groups. Some of them are professional snipers, but most of them accompany their male comrades in repelling terrorists’ offensives on the government positions,” the sources added.

“Over 10,000 women have registered to join the Syrian army in the war on terrorism since 2013,” the sources went on to say.
