Syria’s official SANA news agency reported that a woman was injured in an explosion in the Mezzeh district of the capital, Damascus, just hours after initial reports circulated about a mysterious blast heard in the city.

According to local sources, the explosion occurred in the Mezzeh 86 area and the Western Mezzeh Villas, specifically in the vicinity between Al-Rahman Mosque and the Language Institute. The sources confirmed hearing three successive explosions, which are believed to have resulted from rocket fire.

The sources also noted a heavy security presence in Mezzeh and the arrival of ambulances at the scene following the blasts.

Local sources also raised the casualty toll to one killed and multiple injuries.
In addition, Syrian state TV channel Al-Ikhbariyah quoted a security source as saying that the explosion was caused by an attack carried out by unidentified assailants targeting a house in Mezzeh 86, injuring a woman.

The source added that security forces have launched an investigation to identify the perpetrators and determine the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Preliminary assessments indicate that the explosion was triggered by a short-range rocket projectile fired at the Mezzeh 86 neighborhood, which has a predominantly Alawite population. Experts noted that, based on the scale of the damage, the munition had an estimated range of no more than 8 kilometers, suggesting it was launched from within Damascus itself.
