Syria army destroys key bridge used by militants

The Syrian army has destroyed a key bridge in the east of the country used by the ISIL Takfiri militants for transporting supplies.

According to media reports on Monday, special units of Syrian forces blew up the bridge over Euphrates River in the city of Deir al-Zour. The bridge was of vital importance to the militants for moving supplies to eastern Syria.

A number of terrorists were reportedly killed during the operation for cutting the militants’ supply line.

Syrian forces also targeted the militants’ positions in other parts of the city, destroying their hideouts and tunnels.

Army units clashed with the militants in al-Jbeila and Nazlet al-Rdisat neighborhoods in the city, killing many of them and injuring others.

The city shares a long border with neighboring Iraq and is one of the most strategic strongholds of the militants.

Also on Monday, Syrian soldiers inflicted heavy losses on the Takfiri militants in other parts of the country including Homs, Aleppo, Idlib and Dara’a.

Syria has been gripped by deadly violence since 2011, with ISIL Takfiri terrorists currently controlling parts of it mostly in the east.

The Western powers and their regional allies – especially Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Turkey – are reportedly supporting the militants operating inside Syria.

More than 191,000 people have been killed in the over three years of fighting in the war-ravaged country, says the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), calling the figure a probable “underestimate of the real total number of people killed.”
