shiite news fadallalah lebanonThe son of the late Shiite preacher Sayyed Mohammad Hussein Fadlallah told a delegation from the Future Movement Sunday that Sunnis and Shiites had no enemy other than Israel, adding that dialogue was the only recourse for Lebanese factions.

According to the Shiite News corerspondent, “Sunnis are not a problem for Shiites and Shiites are not a problem for Sunnis; the Zionist entity is the sole enemy of Sunnis, Shiites and all Lebanese,” said Sayyed Ali Fadlallah.

Fadlallah called for a separation of political and sectarian issues. He added that Lebanon is always in need of figures who look for common ground and open the way for agreement rather than focus on points of difference, ignoring all that unites Lebanese of different sects.

Fears of Shiite-Sunni strife have risen following the naming of four Hezbollah members in the indictment from the Special Tribunal for Lebanon, which is investigating the assassination of former Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.

Fadlallah discussed the developments in Lebanon and the region with the delegation, along with ways to enhance national and Islamic unity. The Future Movement officials conveyed to Fadlallah the greetings of former Prime Minister Saad Hariri and the Future Movement command.

The delegation highlighted the importance of the role that late Fadlallah played in uniting the Lebanese at the national and Islamic levels, and stressed the necessity of continuing his work through the institutions established by the late preacher and through his “intellectual and civilized project,” which is being led by his son.

Fadlallah underscored the need for Lebanese factions to engage in dialogue. “We are destined for dialogue as it is the only means to resolve disputes no matter how intense they become. That’s why there is no alternative.”
