Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah: ISIS and other Wahhabist groups damaging Muslims’ image

During his annual meeting with Muslim organizers of commemoration ceremonies in Lebanon, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah denounced Wahhabism’s “evil” teachings which aim to destroy others. He also called out ISIS and other similar groups for damaging the image of Islam and creating a rift between Muslims, The Christian Examiner relays.

“Wahhabism is more evil than Israel, especially [in] that it seeks to destroy others and eliminate whatever thing that has to do with Islam and its history,” Arabic-language newspaper Al-Akhbar quoted Nasrallah as saying. “This program was launched in 2011 and it is not a Shiite and Sunni matter … We should use this opportunity to pin Wahhabism down and deal a blow to it.”

Wahhabism is derived from the teachings of 18th-century Saudi Arabian Muslim cleric Muhammad ibn Abd al-Wahhab, who believed that all other innovations in Islam should be dropped. This type of belief involves very strict implementation of Islam’s primitive version.

Nasrallah is not alone in his desire to destroy Wahhabi terorists. In a column in The New York Times, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif recently called for the elimination of the terorists belief from the world.

Although militant Wahhabism has been reformed several times since the 9/11 attacks in 2001, its ideology is still the same.

Zarif acknowledged that America’s offensives against Iraq in 2003 set the precedent for the ongoing fighting, he pointed out that the root of the violence is the extremist ideology being promoted and exported by Saudi Arabia. This can only be stopped if the United Nations makes a coordinated move to cut off the funding for teachings that spread hate and extremism.
