Quds, Muslims’ Pivotal Issue:Ayatollah Hussein Fadlallah
A senior Lebanese cleric stressed the need for all Islamic groups and Arab nations to commemorate the International Quds Day, saying that the issue of Quds and Palestine is the pivotal issue of the Muslim world which should not fade into oblivion.
“The world’s Muslims and Arab countries should be informed about the Quds Day, because it is only Quds that reminds the Islamic Ummah (community) of its real enemy,” Sayyed Ali Fadlallah, who is the eldest son of the late Grand Ayatollah Mohammad Hussein Fadlallah, told the Tasnim News Agency.
He further said Palestine is Muslims’ main and pivotal issue which should not slip into oblivion, adding that forgetting the international Quds Day is tantamount to losing directions.
Each year, millions of people in Iran as well as other countries in the world hold massive rallies on the last Friday of the Muslim holy month of Ramadan to show their solidarity with the Palestinian people.
It is seen as an opportunity for freedom-seeking people across the world, regardless of faith, to voice their support for the cause of Palestine and vent their anger against the Apartheid regime of Israel, which has occupied Palestinian territories since 1967.
The day is also seen as the legacy of the late founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Imam Khomeini, who officially declared the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan as International Quds Day back in 1979.
