MP Al-Moussawi Addresses Al-Jadeed Sin, Calls for Taking Legal Measures to Enforce Media Law

26 December, 2022 06:41

Chairman of the Media and Telecommunication Parliamentary Committee MP Dr. Ibrahim Al-Moussawi issued the following statement:

Since the moment Al-Jadeed TV aired the insulting and ominous sketch against our mothers and sisters in the South and all of Lebanon, the debate raged through social media back-and-forth, with a frantic, dangerous and negative debate.

Instead of taking the initiative to contain the situation, admit the mistake, but rather the grave sin, and apologize openly and clearly for its sinful act, the aforementioned channel and those in charge of it engaged in the debate, accumulating more negative charges and continuous insults, which once again hit another sanctity, which is the verses of the Holy Quran. Al-Jadeed made the problem worse instead of addressing it!

In this regard, we would like to state the following stance:

First, what Al-Jadeed Channel committed is a very heinous, void and unjust act, a clear slander against our mothers and sisters, and a described insult to the Lebanese society and every person with dignity, honor and chivalry because southern women are mothers, wives and sisters who embody a high and precious value equal to all of our moral and human dignity; those women deservedly represent an integrated moral system in jihad, patience, sacrifice, honor and loyalty.

Second, the channel officials’ use of the verses of the Holy Quran in an insulting manner in the debate in order to defend their stance increases the seriousness of the situation because it widens the extent of the insult so that lightness and underestimation reach a wider scope that affects all Muslims regarding what they believe in and hold sacred, the book of God Almighty.

Third, continuing this kind of debates increases the provocation and tension of the public through the social media platforms and paves the way for the accumulation of additional needless mistakes.

Therefore, for fear of slipping into the worst, we ask the competent authorities, headed by the Minister of Information and the Chairman of the National Media Council, to take the initiative and address the issue properly by taking the required legal measures to ensure that all broadcasting channels adhere to the laws and moral as well as national obligations that observe the limits of respecting dignities and sanctities.
