Former Mufti of Lebanon Sheikh Mohammed Rashid Qabbani slammed Sunday’s terrorist bombing in Damascus that left several Shia pilgrims martyred or injured.

In a statement released on Monday, the senior cleric said the attack that was carried out by Takfiri groups aimed to spread spite and enmity among Islamic schools of thought, al-Nushra website reported.

He described sectarian strife as the main challenge facing the Muslim Ummah and said it is necessary to stand up against it.

Sheikh Qabbani went on to stress the need for unity in order to confront terrorists.
At least six Shia pilgrims were martyred and 20 injured in the terrorist bombing on Sunday afternoon in central Damascus.

The deadly blast that happened on a bus in al-Kalasa district in the Syrian capital targeted Lebanese Shia pilgrims who were on their way to visit the holy shrines of Hazrat Zeynab (SA) and Hazrat Ruqayya (SA).

The al-Qaeda-linked al-Nusra front has claimed responsibility for the attack, saying that it was carried out by a suicide bomber.
