Anti-Damascus militants belonging to the ISIL terrorist group have reportedly clashed with the rival Takfiris from the so-called Free Syrian Army in eastern Lebanon, which has been suffering from a spillover of the Syria crisis.

The clashes took place in the town of Arsal in the Baalbek district of Lebanon’s Beqaa Governorate on Thursday, wounding a number of people, Lebanon’s As-Safir newspaper reported.

Meanwhile Lebanon’s Elnashra news website reported that the Lebanese army had conducted a successful operation against the rival armed groups which have been gripped in fierce infighting in recent months.

Over the past months, Lebanon has been suffering from terrorist attacks by al-Qaeda-linked militants as well as random rocket attacks, which are viewed as a spillover of the conflict in neighboring Syria.

Syria has been gripped by deadly violence since 2011 with ISIL Takfiri terrorists currently controlling parts of it mostly in the east.

Reports say more than 200,000 people have been killed and millions displaced due to the foreign-backed militancy plaguing Syria.
