Zarih of Imam Hussein (AS) Replaced

imam hussain rozaDuring a ceremony on Monday, January 21, replacing the old Zarih (outer sarcophagus enclosure of the holy shrine) of Imam Hussein (AS) with a new one started.

The ceremony in Karbala was attended by a large number of Iraqi citizens and media persons, Baratha news agency reported.

Custodian of the mausoleum of Imam Hussein (AS) in a speech said that the new Zarih will replace the old one that had been installed in 1938.

The old Zarih had been built in India, Sheikh Abdul Mahdi Karbalaei noted.

He said the new Zarih, which was made in Iran, has high quality and design.

Sheikh Abdul Karbalaei went on to say that installing the new Zarih will take nearly a month.

The new Zarih of Imam Hussein’s (AS) holy shrine was built in the holy city of Qom in six years. Gold, silver, precious stones and 5 tons of wood have been used to construct the artwork that weighs 12 tons.

It has been described as one of the most beautiful Zarihs ever built.

It was designed by prominent Iranian miniaturist Master Mahmoud Farshchian and top masters in the fields of calligraphy, Monabbat (wood-carving), Ghalam-zani (toreutics, metal-working), etc have worked on the Zarih, which measures 22.86 meters in area.
