Karbala:Twin bomb blast,50 Mourners Martyred

karbala_twin_bomb_blastAt least 50 mourners of Imam Hussain as, including 45 in the holy Shia city of Karbala in central Iraq, have been martyred and scores of others injured in a day of violence across the country.

According to the Shiite News Correspondent,On Thursday, two back- to-back car bomb attacks respectively hit the north and south of the city. The explosions also injured at least 150 others.

The blasts occurred as the country has turned into a pilgrim destination due to the occasion of Arbaeen, which marks the 40th day to pass following the anniversary of the martyrdom of the Imam Hussein(Grand Son of the Holy Prophet Hazrat Muhammad PBUH).

Karbala-headed Shias were also targeted earlier in the day in a roadside bomb explosion in southern Baghdad, which killed one and injured nine.

A similar blast took place in a town also located in central Iraq, killing one and inflicting wounds on three.

An explosive-laden vehicle was blown up in the eastern city of Diyala, killing two policemen and a female journalist and wounding 30 others, including a young child.

Tension bubbles up throughout Iraq some 10 years since the US-led invasion of the country and despite the presence of around 50,000 American troops on the country’s soil.

The California-based investigative organization Project Censored says over one million Iraqis have died during the US military presence.
