iraq_blast_2A provincial police source said on condition of anonymity that Colonel Mohammed Faisal al-Gu’ood, police chief of Hit City, was killed in the roadside bomb explosion.

The attack came on Monday some 160 km northwest of the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, China’s Xinhua news agency reported. The blast  destroyed two vehicles of Gu’ood’s convoy, wounding four bodyguards, one of them in critical condition. Police have imposed curfew in the area, deploying dozens of forces in the city looking for the attackers, the source said.

Bomb attacks continue to target security and police forces amid a new surge of violence in the war-torn country.
