Three civilians killed in Iraq violence

Three civilians have lost their lives in the latest wave of violence to sweep eastern and northern Iraq, as police say they have arrested more suspected militants.
A news anchor for the al-Mosuliya television station was killed on Sunday at his residence in the North of the capital of the country’s northern province of Nineveh.
Gunmen broke into the house of Mazen Mirdan in Mosul’s Siddiq neighborhood and shot him to death before escaping to an unknown  destination, Aswat al-Iraq news agency reported.In the eastern Diyala province, two improvised explosive devices were detonated separately in the provincial capital, Baqouba.
The first explosion occurred when a bomb attached to a cart pushed by an old man went off in the area of Jabinat in central Baqouba. The blast killed the man and ripped through a nearby store.
Another bomb blast targeted a civilian vehicle in the area of al-Hashimiyat in Baqouba’s northern district of al-Khalis, killing one of the passengers — a child, and critically injuring his parents.
A civilian was injured when a roadside bomb exploded on a main highway in northern Baghdad’s Kazimiya district.
Meanwhile, Iraqi police arrested ten wanted men and confiscated a quantity of weapons and ammunition during a dozen raids across the southern province of Basra, police said in a statement.
A militant, with five hand grenades in his possession, was arrested in the Kornich area in central Mosul.
The gunman reportedly confessed during initial investigations to involvement in armed attacks against Iraqi forces in the heavily congested al-Kornich and Bab al-Toub areas.
