On Martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hadi, thousands of pilgrims flock to Askariyya Shrine in Samarra

Thousands of pilgrims have flocked to the Askariyya Shrine in the Iraqi city of Samarra, 125 km north of Baghdad, Iraq’s Shia Awqaf Department said.

The devotees of Ahl-ul-Bayt (AS) have travelled to the city to mourn the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hadi (AS), the 10th Shia Imam.

Sami al-Masoudi, an official with department, said the pilgrims have arrived in the city from different parts of Iraq and elsewhere.

He said different government bodies and organization have taken measures to provide the necessary services for the pilgrims.

Officials have also adopted tight security measures to ensure the mourners’ safety.

Askariyya in Samarra is home to the shrines of Imam Hadi (AS) and his son Imam Hassan Askari (AS).

Imam Hadi (AS) was martyred in Samarra at the age of 41 in the year 254 AH.
