Medical Services for Arbaeen Pilgrims: Iran Activates 202 Healthcare Centers

Shiite News: Dr. Dabiri, Secretary of the Department of Atabat-e-Aliat at Iran’s Hajj and Pilgrimage Medical Center, announced that medical services for Arbaeen pilgrims are being provided through public Mawakeb (pilgrim service camps) and Red Crescent medical centers.

He said that out of the 202 active medical centers, 151 are operated by public Mawakeb, while 48 centers are managed in cooperation with various provincial branches of the Iranian Red Crescent Society.

Dr. Dabiri explained that the medical operation in Iraq began on July 14 with the deployment of advance medical teams, while full-scale healthcare services officially started on July 16. These services will continue until Safar 22 or 23 (August 16 or 17).

He advised pilgrims, especially those suffering from diabetes, high blood pressure, and heart disease, to carry all essential and emergency medications. He also recommended that they keep a card containing details of their medical condition, medications, and personal information so healthcare workers can provide immediate assistance during emergencies.

Dr. Dabiri further advised pilgrims traveling on foot to wear hats or traditional scarves (keffiyeh) for protection from the sun, drink water and other fluids regularly, avoid walking during peak daytime heat, and, whenever possible, continue their journey after sunset.

He added that pilgrims requiring medical assistance can locate the nearest Iranian Red Crescent medical center through Google Maps or seek guidance by calling the 4030 helpline.

He also encouraged pilgrims to choose shaded routes, take short breaks every few kilometers, and stay adequately hydrated. Those traveling by private vehicle were advised to rest for at least 15 minutes every two hours and avoid medications that may cause drowsiness or reduce concentration.

Dr. Dabiri stated that these guidelines have been prepared based on experiences from previous Arbaeen pilgrimages and are intended to help ensure the health and safety of pilgrims throughout their spiritual journey.
