Prime Minister: Iraq supports dialogue between Iran and the United States

Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani affirmed on Thursday Iraq’s commitment to building stronger relations with France, while also indicating Baghdad’s support for dialogue between Iran and the United States.
The Prime Minister’s Media Office stated in a press release received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA) that “Prime Minister Mohammed Shia al-Sudani received French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot today.”
The Prime Minister reiterated “Iraq’s commitment to building stronger relations with France, particularly in the economic sphere, and to facilitating visits by French companies to Iraq, as well as coordinating the establishment of strong partnerships with Iraqi companies to enhance economic and trade cooperation between the two countries and contribute to the development and reconstruction process,” expressing his welcome for “the participation of French companies in the Baghdad International Fair.”
He explained that “Iraq has shouldered significant responsibilities on behalf of the international community, most recently regarding the transfer of terrorists from Syrian prisons, and that it is essential today for the world to support Iraq at this critical time, and for countries to fulfill their responsibilities by repatriating their citizens, given the shared threat this poses,” emphasizing “the continuation of cooperation with France in developing Iraq’s defense capabilities.”
He pointed to the “anticipated talks between Iran and the United States, given the highly sensitive stage the world and the region are going through,” emphasizing “Iraq’s support for dialogue due to its importance in reaching peaceful solutions.”
For his part, Barrault conveyed “President Macron’s greetings to the Prime Minister,” praising “the Prime Minister’s role in maintaining security and stability in Iraq and the region, and his efforts in the reconstruction of Iraq.”
He affirmed “the desire of French companies to work in Iraq,” noting “the participation of 20 French companies from various sectors in the Baghdad International Fair.”
The French Foreign Minister expressed his country’s desire “to work with Iraq for the stability of the region and to coordinate efforts to eliminate terrorism,” commending “Iraq’s role in transferring terrorist prisoners, as this is a step that will contribute to achieving regional security,” and affirming “France’s readiness to provide support regarding the issue of imprisoned terrorists.
