Day of Ashura announced as an official holiday in Iraq

The Prime Minister of Iraq announced Wednesday, July 17, 2024 to be an official holiday.

According to Shafaqna, quoted by the Iraqi News Agency, all ministries and government institutions are closed on July 17, which coincides with the 10th of Muharram and the day of Ashura.

It is noteworthy that since Grand Ayatollah Sistani declared Monday, July 8, 2024 as the first day of Muharram, Wednesday, July 17 is the 10th day of Muharram and Ashura in Iraq.
