human rightThe Iranian mission to the United Nations has strongly criticized the human rights situation in Western countries, including the US and Canada.

Addressing the UN General Assembly’s Third Committee on Thursday, a member of the Iranian mission denounced human rights violations in the US, UK, Canada, Australia and EU member states.
The Iranian envoy enumerated various cases of human rights abuses in certain Western countries, criticizing the West’s biased approach and double standards toward the issue of rights in other countries.

The representative pointed to Islamophobia, racial and ethnic discrimination as well as crackdown on peaceful demonstrations in Europe and the US.

The Iranian envoy said that such countries that have a long record of human rights violation both inside and outside their territories are not in a place to claim advocating human rights in other countries and they had better work toward the improvement of the grave human rights situation in their own countries.

The Iranian envoy also criticized Canada’s violation of the rights of its indigenous people and racial minorities and censured Ottawa’s call for the resignation of the UN Palestinian rights envoy.
