Ayatollah Khamenei’s Top Aide: Partition of Iraqi Kurdistan History Now

Iranian Supreme Leader’s top adviser for international affairs Ali Akbar Velayati congratulated the Iraqi government and nation on the liberation of Kirkuk, and said Iraq’s Kurdistan region will never be separated from that country.

“The fake plan for partition of the Iraqi Kurdistan is now history after liberation of the Northern province of Kirkuk from Daesh (ISIL) terrorists in that country,” Velayati told reporters on Thursday.

He reiterated that the problem of the Northern region of Iraq has been settled thanks to the Iraqi officials’ prudence with the least trouble and without blood shedding.

Velayati pointed to Iran-Iraq cordial relations, and said, “The two countries enjoy identical history and religion.”

“The Islamic Republic of Iran has always helped its friends and Muslim nations in the region,” he said, adding that Iran would spare no efforts to assist the Islamic governments.

Velayati said that the US influence in the Middle East is coming to an end; Washington has no room in “our region” and leveling accusations against Iran avails the US nothing.

“Iran is considered as the resistance axis in the region; Iranian nation enjoys great national and religious dignity,” he added.

In spite of opposition by the Iraqi Federal Government and regional states, as well as international warnings, the KRG referendum was held on September 25 in some Northern Iraqi provinces, including Erbil, Suleymaniyah, Duhok, and some disputed regions like Kirkuk.
