Large Turnout in Election Showed People’s Trust in System: Imam Khamenei

shiitenews rehbar ali khamaThe Supreme Leader says the people’s huge turnout in the March 2 parliamentary election was in fact an endorsement of the Islamic system and a demonstration of their trust in the system.
“The participation of the absolute majority of people in the 9th Majlis election was in fact a vote to the system and showed their full trust in the system,” Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei told a meeting of the Assembly of Experts on Thursday.
In the scene of confrontation with the opponents the people demonstrated their “wisdom and faith-based power” by turning out in large number in the election and neutralized plots by the opponents who had been campaigning for a long time to dissuade people from taking part in the election, Imam Khamenei noted.
Imam Khamenei went on to say that the people’s large turnout in the election was in fact a “divine blessing” and one should pray God for this.
For this huge turnout, Imam Khamenei said, “I greatly thank the dear people of Iran.”
Imam Khamenei went on to say that the election also came as an eye opener to all those who had imagined that the people have turned away from the Islamic system.
“This election, like a wakening slap, woke up certain people who had raised imagination in their whims about the system and the people and put the reality before their eyes.”
Imam Khamenei said after the commotion that was created about the presidential election in 2009 “some had predicted that people have lost their confidence in the Islamic system but the 12th of Esfand (March 2) election was a strong and clear-cut response to that wrong conclusion.”
Ayatollah Khamenei also said all those who voted in the election demonstrated their wisdom, adding in a religious democracy one should not refuse to vote if he has complaints about some issues.
