Iranian Top Commander: “Saudi intervention in Bahrain was a strategic mistake”

Saudi Arabia’s decision to send troops to Bahrain to crack down on pro-democracy protesters was a strategic mistake, according to the commander of Iran’s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps.

Shiitenews- Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari made the remarks in an interview with the Fars news agency published on its website on Saturday.

Jafari said Saudi Arabia should await divine retribution, but their rulers are unable to understand this.

He went on to say that Iran’s military might is greater than Saudi Arabia’s, and added that it would be very easy for Iran to make a move similar to Saudi Arabia’s recent action, but the Islamic Republic does not need to do such a thing.

Elsewhere in his remarks, Jafari downplayed the possibility of a military attack against Iran, saying Iran is in full military preparedness, possesses a high deterrent capability, and enjoys intelligence supremacy over its enemies.

Over the past few years, Iran has been able to prepare itself militarily and increase its capabilities, Jafari stated.

After eight years of work, “we have reached such a status that many people, including our enemies, have realized that posing a military threat against Iran is no longer feasible,” the IRGC commander opined.

“The reason for this deterrence is the rapid pace of the increase in our capabilities, including our missile capabilities,” he said.

He went on to say that Tehran’s main extra-regional enemy, which is the Zionist regime, is within the range of Iranian missiles.

“If the United States wants to support Israel’s threats, a major part of its (U.S.) forces are even closer to us and are within the range of our weapons as well,” he stated.

He added that the IRGC has been constantly monitoring the enemies’ moves and can predict what their next move will be.
