No Place for Foreign Forces in West Asia, Says Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi

Shiite News: Iranian Foreign Minister Seyyed Abbas Araghchi has said that what he described as recent U.S. and Israeli aggression against Iran has laid the foundations for a new regional order in which, in his view, there will be no place for foreign military forces or any form of external intervention in West Asia.

In a statement, Araghchi said that the current tensions in the region were a direct consequence of what Iran describes as U.S. and Israeli aggression against the country. He added that the Iranian people’s resistance and steadfastness had prevented the aggressors from achieving their stated objectives.

The Iranian foreign minister referred to what he described as repeated U.S. violations of commitments under the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding reached to end the war. He said that despite these obstacles, Tehran remained committed to restoring lasting peace and stability in the region. Araghchi has previously said that Washington’s return to its commitments under the Islamabad MoU could help restore normal conditions in the region.

Araghchi stressed that Iran would continue efforts to protect what it considers the Iranian people’s rights while maintaining its stated principles. He said that regional calm and the restoration of friendly and peaceful relations with neighboring countries were among Iran’s priorities, adding that Tehran had begun regular consultations with countries in the region toward this objective.

At the end of his statement, the Iranian foreign minister praised China for what he described as its principled position in condemning violations of the basic principles of the UN Charter by the United States and Israel. He also welcomed Beijing’s approach toward preventing what he called the misuse of the UN Security Council.
