Security a ‘prerequisite’ for economic prosperity, says senior IRGC commander
Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps’ (IRGC) Ground Force, Brigadier General Mohammad Karami, says the sustainable development of Iran depends on the people’s participation and interactions between institutions dealing with security and the economy.
Addressing a conference on Sunday, General Karami highlighted the deep connection between security and economic as well as scientific growth. He noted that southeastern Iran is a rich region that can be transformed into an axis of stability, security, and national progress.
Emphasizing the need for security-oriented development to ensure sustainability, he said that security is a prerequisite for economic prosperity, while the absence of a dynamic economy, in turn, undermines security.
The IRGC commander also pointed to the unique economic potential of southeastern Iran, stressing that the Makran and Chabahar coasts, agriculture, and international transit routes make the region vital for the country’s overall growth.
He added that the region’s proximity to Pakistan and Afghanistan via Chabahar, as well as to Oman and African countries, can serve as a powerful driver of economic development in southeastern Iran.
Referring to popular participation in maintaining regional security, he explained that the sustainability of “this revolutionary model” has largely depended on the trust and empathy shared among diverse ethnic and religious groups.
