Argentine seeks arrest of Iranian Minister through Interpol
Shiite News: Argentina’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has demanded the arrest of the Iranian minister who is part of the Iranian delegation visiting Pakistan.
Argentina asked Interpol to arrest Iran’s interior minister over the 1994 bombing of a Jewish community center in Buenos Aires.
In a statement released by the Argentine Foreign Ministry, it was said that the aforementioned Minister Ahmed Waheedi is part of the Iranian delegation visiting Pakistan and Sri Lanka, in this regard Interpol has issued a red alert for his arrest at the request of Argentina.
The statement added that Argentina has also asked these two governments to arrest Waheedi.
An Argentine court on April 12 accused Iran of an attack on the AMIA Jewish Community Center in Buenos Aires in 1994 and a bomb attack on the Israeli embassy two years earlier that killed 85 and 29 people, respectively.
No one has ever claimed responsibility for the 1994 attack, and no investigation has been resolved, but Argentina and Israel have long suspected that the Iranian-backed group Hezbollah carried out the attack at Iran’s request.
Prosecutors have accused senior Iranian officials of ordering the attack, although Tehran has denied involvement.
“Argentina wants the international arrest of those responsible for the 1994 attack,” the Foreign Ministry said in a statement on Tuesday.
