‘E3 ultimately agreed to accept Iran proposals as basis for Vienna Talks’

As the seventh round of talks aimed at reviving the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) comes to an end in Vienna, Iran says its new proposals and amendments will be included in a text that all sides have agreed will form the basis of future negotiations.

Iranian lead negotiator Ali Bagheri-Kani said the sides had come up with two new drafts one on the removal of US sanctions and another on Iran’s nuclear commitments that were different from the texts that had been discussed in the previous round of talks that ended in June.

Bagheri said Iran had resisted attempts by the three European signatories of the JCPOA — Britain, France and Germany — to go back to the June text. The EU coordinator said if tough political decisions are not made soon, saving the JCPOA would no longer be possible.

EU Coordinator Enrique Mora said the delegates don’t have months but rather weeks to come to an agreement. He urged all sides to establish clear priorities and come back with open and realistic viewpoints about what can be achieved.
