The Iranian people are taking part in the Ten-Day Dawn celebrations to mark the 41st anniversary of the victory of the 1979 Islamic Revolution.

The nationwide ceremonies kicked off on Saturday, exactly 41 years after the late founder of the Islamic Republic, Imam Khomeini (may his soul rest in peace) returned to Tehran, on 1 February 1979, having spent 15 long years in exile, mostly in the Iraqi city of Najaf.

A special ceremony is being held at Imam Khomeini’s mausoleum in south Tehran, with a host of senior state and military officials as well as thousands of ordinary people attending.

The ten-day-dawn festivities will culminate in nationwide rallies on 11 February this year, the anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution.

The Revolution toppled the US-backed Pahlavi monarchy and set the stage for the establishment of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
