Bahrain clerics slam religious bigotry

A group of Bahraini clerics issued a statement and slammed the efforts of the government to dominate mosques and Husseinias, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).

In this statement issued on Friday, Bahraini scholars demanded independence of the mosques denouncing the efforts of the government to predominate mosques and Husseinias.

Part of this statement runs,” Jafaria office of Waqf (Endowment) is an official center and quite obedient of Bahrain government; therefore, scholars do not accept its domination over mosques.”

Bahraini clerics also noted that domination of Jafaria office over mosques has political inspirations behind it; hence, they demanded independence of the religious centers from governmental control.”

Shaikh Mohsen bin Shaikh Abdulhussain Khalaf Al-Asfoor, Jaafari Endowment Council Chairman has previously served as a judge in Bahrain Judiciary system before he was sacked over alleged bureaucratic corruption charges.
He is quite renowned over his hostility with Bahrain protesters as well as political and religious figures.
