Ahead of February 14, the anniversary of Bahraini people’s uprising against Al Khalifa dynasty, a three-day strike has been launched by people who have shut down their businesses.

Last week, Bahraini opposition and political activists called for a three-day public strike and general demonstrations to mark the fourth anniversary of their February 14, 2011 uprising.

Meanwhile, the Bahraini opposition said they are preparing for a general strike starting on Wednesday, Feb 11, at 8:00 p.m. (local time) until Saturday, Feb 14.

The opposition also asked the Bahrainis to stop any deal or commercial transaction with government and refuse to purchase goods or go to gas stations, and make the streets empty of vehicles during the three-day strike.

The uprising in Bahrain began on February 14, 2011. Scores of people have been killed in the crackdown that followed the uprising with security forces arresting hundreds. Dozens of demonstrators have been also sentenced to jail terms for attending street protests.

International human rights organizations have repeatedly criticized the Manama regime for its excessive use of force against peaceful protesters.
