Anti-government protests continue in Turkey

turky protestThousands of Turkish demonstrators gathered in Kadikoy district in Istanbul in protest against Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan government’s authoritarian policies and in condemnation of the police’s campaign against the demonstrators .

The protesters, who were attending an event to condemn the police offensive, chanted anti- Erdogan’s government slogans.
Istanbul governor stressed that Gezi Park will be opened for the public on Monday, while the protesters asserted that” it should not have been closed already.”
Under the pressure of the Turkish street, a Turkish court canceled plans for the establishment of an Ottoman-style barracks in Taksim Square in the place of the park.
Meanwhile, the Turkish police fired tear gas and used water cannons to disperse thousands of protesters and prevent them from reaching Taksim Square.
On May 31, the police dispersed hundreds of Turkish environment supporter activists who were protesting against the uprooting of 600 trees in the framework of the government plan to establish an Ottoman-style barracks in Gezi park.
