Shiite News: Allama Syed Sajid Ali Naqvi, head of the Shia Ulama Council of Pakistan, has said in a statement regarding Zakat al-Fitr that according to the Sharia, Fitr is obligatory on every person who is mature, and sane, at sunset on the night of Eid al-Fitr.

If he has senses and is not a poor person, he must give himself and all his dependents three kilos per person of the foods that are used in his city or region, such as wheat, barley, rice, corn, dates, raisins, etc or its general prevailing price to the deserving person.

The Fitrah of a guest who comes before sunset on the night of Eid al-Fitr is also obligatory on the owner of the house, while the Fitrah of a guest who comes after sunset is not obligatory on the owner.

He said that the right of Zakat al-Fitr is given to a person who does not have any expenses for himself and his family throughout the year and does not have any source of income through which he can support his family throughout the year.

However, priority should be given to the poorest relatives or people from city.
