PM appears in IHC in missing persons case, assures to resolve problem

Islamabad: Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif appeared before the Islamabad High Court and assured to solve the missing persons case.

Chief Justice Athar Minallah heard the case of missing persons in Islamabad High Court on Friday.

The Chief Justice remarked that the court has summoned you because this is a huge issue, which has been going on in this court for many months, the state not responding.

He said that a chief executive ruled this country for 9 years, he wrote in his book in a proud manner that he sold his people abroad, it seems that this was the policy of the state. There cannot be a state within, this court is not an investigation agency, it is a constitutional court, the matter has been sent to the federal cabinet, and you have formed a cabinet committee, this is not just a matter of committee formation, this court has deemed it appropriate to tell you about the real issue.

Chief Justice said that the Missing Persons Commission was formed and its proceedings which came out are very painful. It is the responsibility of the state to resolve their sufferings. No action has been taken, this perception affects our national security, and the political leadership has to address this issue, missing people is the biggest form of torture.

He said that the court has no other option but to ask the executive, when the state comes and says that we do not know who made the people missing, then what should we do?

You are working for the flood victims and came to the court understanding this issue, enforced disappearances are a violation of the constitution, either you have to say that the constitution is not restored in its original form, the national security of this country is in your hands.

Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif said that it was my duty to appear on the order of the court, the Secretary General of the United Nations is in Pakistan, I had a meeting with him, when I got the order of the court, I said that I will go to the court.

He told the court that the child of a missing person said, “reunite my father with me. This sentence of the child was very disturbing for me. I will not miss any opportunity to fulfill my responsibility.”

Shahbaz Sharif said that I assure that I will reunite the missing persons with their families, I will leave no stone unturned to solve the case of missing persons, I am answerable to the people and Allah Almighty.
